Waterfront Redevelopment Picks Up Speed

Significant progress has been made in waterfront redevelopment. Most noteworthy is the hiring of a consortia of firms led by MBIA Bartram & Cochran (based in Connecticut) to assist us in developing a Master Redevelopment Plan. With MBIA in place, we are on track to complete the redevelopment planning process within the next 5-6 months.

The decision to hire MBIA stemmed from a recommendation by Brewer’s citizen-led Waterfront Advisory Committee to seek professional effort. With their assistance, we will now be able to fully take into account traffic study information, environmental data, and market research as we move our planning efforts forward. We will also have access to internationally renowned planning expertise, as well as expert engineering and design assistance, to make sure our plan has the highest chance of success.

Over the next few months, the Waterfront Advisory Committee and the MBIA team will be meeting with individual residents and businesses, and holding several public hearings, to seek additional input from Brewer residents and to get feedback on redevelopment strategies. Your participation in this effort is critical. Waterfront redevelopment can only work if it meets the needs of our community.
